The city of Košice
In 2016, IFF ART FILM moved house to Košice, chiefly drawn by the city’s more accommodating infrastructure. The cultural and economic hub of eastern Slovakia, Košice is an ideal location for a film festival.
Cinemas and cultural venues
IFF ART FILM will be held in the centre of Košice. The programme of accompanying events for the wider public will take place on the city’s Hlavná ulica (Main Street). Films will be screened at the venues listed below.
Veritas
The cinema in Dominican Square with tradition. During the totalitarian regime, it was the memorable Dukla cinema. After the revolution, the Cinefil film club was built on its foundations. As of 2023, it has a total capacity of 234 seats and is equipped with the most modern technologies, spectacular acoustics and a cinema screen with digital projection.
Executioner’s Bastion
Executioner’s Bastion, with a capacity of 200 seats, is a historical area from the second half of the 15th century. In the years 1940 – 1943, a replica of Rákoczi’s exile house from Rodosto was built here. Inside of the building you can find an exhibition of firearms and the Bastion Gallery. Beautiful garden is regularly used for organizing various cultural events.
Garden cinema
The magical space hidden in the passage between Hlavná 80 and Mäsiarska 37 in Košice offers a summer film program complemented by lectures, quizzes and concerts. The garden cinema was first opened in 1956 in the courtyard behind the former Partizán cinema, today’s Small Stage of the State Theatre. It was used for screenings until the mid-1980s. In 2021 it was partially reconstructed and reopened under the leadership of the Cinefil civic association.
