The International Film Festival ART FILM 2025, to be held in Košice from 20 to 27 June, will for the first time in its history showcase a special programme devoted to Indian cinema entitled Colours, Flavours and Songs of India. Created in cooperation with the Embassy of India in the Slovak Republic, the section will offer Slovak audiences a selection of six outstanding films that reflect the diversity, culture and contemporary social issues of India.
English Vinglish (2012)
The story of an ordinary Indian housewife who travels to New York and secretly enrols in an English course to overcome the language barrier and regain her self-confidence. The film marked legendary actress Sridevi’s return to the screen after 15 years.
Sijou (2021)
A moving tale about a young village boy in north-eastern India whose life is radically changed by the lingering feudal system. The film has received multiple awards at international festivals.
Gangubai Kathiawadi (2022)
A biographical drama about a woman who rises from a victim of human trafficking to a powerful leader fighting for women’s rights in Mumbai. The film has won numerous awards and was screened at the Berlin International Film Festival.
RRR – Rise Roar Revolt (2022)
An epic action film set during British colonial rule in India that tells the story of two revolutionaries. The movie won both an Oscar and a Golden Globe for Best Original Song.
12th Fail (2023)
An inspirational story of a boy from a poor family who, despite many obstacles, strives for a career in the civil service. The film realistically portrays the struggle of many young Indians for a better future.
Kalki 2898 AD (2024)
A dystopian sci-fi epic set in the year 2898, where a group of rebels believe that the unborn child of one woman is the reincarnation of the god Kalki. Visually stunning, the film is the most expensive Indian production of all time.
The Colours, Flavours and Songs of India section is a unique opportunity for Slovak viewers to explore the richness and diversity of Indian cinema.
