The smallest cinema-goers will have plenty to enjoy at the 31st IFF Art Film (20 – 27 June 2025). The Children’s Films section offers three varied tales that blend imagination, adventure and the power of music and art — the animated newcomer The Quest, the live-action family comedy Sugar Candy and the poetic anime The Glassworker. The festive mood continues on 22 June at 16:00 in Kulturpark with a 60-minute sing-along show by TV Jojko: Mojko and Kajka.
Hungarian directors Csaba Máli and Zsolt Pálfi bring Mihály Vörösmarty’s romantic poem to life in breathtaking 2D animation inspired by Attila Dargay’s classic style with The Quest. Young Csongor sets off with his clumsy friend Balga to find the fairy Tünde and true love, while the witch Mirigy tests his resolve and courage. Folklore, humour and timeless questions of love, endurance and the meaning of life merge into a visually intoxicating family adventure.
The Czech-Slovak newcomer Sugar Candy, directed by Pavel Jandourek, follows Anička Jesenská (Tereza Ramba), who inherits a “haunted” house with a greenhouse and a dental surgery in Medov. Thanks to an exotic Peruvian herb, she can treat teeth pain-free and soon wins the hearts (and smiles) of young patients—much to the displeasure of the town’s star dentist, Dr Druml. A brave gang of children joins Anička, and the whole town discovers how a single good deed can transform a community.
Festival partner for the film: Súkromné stomatologické pracovisko DDDental.
Pakistan’s first anime and the debut of Mano Animation Studio, The Glassworker, by multi-talent Usman Riaz, transports us to a craft town where young glassblower Vincent and gifted violinist Alliz seek their own paths as war looms. Hand-drawn animation, moving music and echoes of Studio Ghibli and classic Disney create a visual poem about love of art, the power of music and the courage to defy parental and social expectations. A standout at last year’s Annecy festival, the film promises an unforgettable experience.
Mojko and Kajka with a talk on the book Jojo, Really?! 2 — live at Kulturpark
As part of the accompanying programme on 22 June at 16:00, Kulturpark will resound with a 60-minute musical–theatre show by the most-watched children’s channel TV Jojko. Bear Mojko, the fearless Kajka and author Branislava Hronskáinvite children and parents to explore emotions, dreams and mindful parenting through songs and humour.
