ART FILM INDUSTRY Brings a Professional Program Full of Inspiration and Practical Advice for Filmmakers

As part of its 2025 edition, the International Film Festival Art Film presents ART FILM INDUSTRY—a series of professional events taking place from June 21 to 26 at the ALFA Gallery in Košice’s Kulturpark and at the Artforum bookstore. Led by film professionals from Slovakia and abroad, the program will focus on the practical aspects of filmmaking, current trends, and challenges in the audiovisual industry.

The series will open on Saturday, June 21 at 11:00 AM with a presentation of the 16-part television series Miša v Košiciach, created in cooperation with TV JOJ. Screenwriter Hana Lasicová and director Ján Novák will offer an inside look at the project. At 1:00 PM, Martin Novosad will give a lecture on co-production opportunities for foreign audiovisual projects (films and series) for Czech Television.

On Sunday, June 22 at 11:00 AM, Peter Pavlík will explore the significance of trailers in film marketing, discussing their structure, aesthetic, and arguing that trailers are a unique art form. At 1:00 PM, Peter Harum will give a talk on the use of artificial intelligence in documentary filmmaking, focusing on its ethical and creative implications, along with the changes, advantages, and risks this technology introduces.

Monday, June 23 at 10:30 AM will feature a masterclass with renowned Slovak director Dušan Trančík, who will share his directorial philosophy. The festival will also screen his new film Akcia Monaco. At 1:00 PM, cinematographer Martin Polerecký will speak about the importance of color grading in film and how coloring techniques impact the viewer. That evening at 6:00 PM at Artforum, there will be a discussion on publishing film literature and digital media in Slovakia with representatives of the Slovak Film Institute and film theory experts.

On Tuesday, June 24 at 10:30 AM, FIPRESCI Vice President Elena Rubashevska will present the 100-year history of the prestigious International Federation of Film Critics, which will be awarding its Blue Angel Prize at Art Film for the first time. At 1:00 PM, Adrián Čarný will examine how the JOJ Play platform is reshaping the market, production, and viewing habits. The session will include a discussion on content, trends, and real-world streaming examples.

Wednesday, June 25 at 10:30 AM will feature acclaimed director and pop culture analyst Alexandre O. Philippe with a lecture on independent film production in the U.S. and a creative analysis of iconic cinematic phenomena. At 1:00 PM, a masterclass with cinematographer Martin Štrba will follow, reflecting on his body of work and the transformation of Czech and Slovak cinema after 1989. Štrba will also receive the prestigious Golden Camera Award at this year’s Art Film.

The program will conclude on Thursday, June 26. At 10:30 AM, musician and composer David Kollar will present the process of composing film scores and their relationship to visual structure. At 1:00 PM, producer Timea Huszár will lead a workshop on low-budget film production, offering practical tips on planning, budgeting, and team communication based on her international experience.
