The festival will open with renowned Oscar-winning director Roman Polanski’s latest film: Ghost Writer, a gripping thriller about a man who knows too much to keep quiet. Starring Pierce Brosnan and Ewan McGregor, the film was awarded with a Silver Bear for Best Director at this year’s Berlinale. During the red-carpet opening ceremony, Czech director Václav Vorlíček will accept the prestigious Golden Camera Award.
Over the course of the festival, Art Film Fest‘s cinemas will feature exactly 240 films from forty-eight different countries, and the number of screenings awaiting audiences has reached a record 270. The last film to top off these figures is Russian director Yuri Ozerov’s Bolshaya doroga (The Great Road, 1962), featuring a performance by Josef Abrhám. The film portrays Czech author Jaroslav Hašek during his stay in Russia, where he began to conceive his well-known tale of the soldier Švejk (from The Good Soldier Švejk). Interestingly, Josef Abrhám has never had the chance to see the finished film. But he will at Art Film Fest, when he is bestowed the Actor’s Mission Award.
The other celebrities to receive the prestigious bronze plaque will be Slovak actor Milan Kňažko and world-famous French actor Gérard Depardieu. And at the festival’s close, the Golden Camera Award for a major contribution to the field of cinema will go to Slovak cinematographer Stanislav Szomolányi.
Viewers will get to enjoy pictures in thirteen programme sections at three cinemas in Trenčianske Teplice and five screenings venues in Trenčín. The festival’s multitude of distinguished films will also include the freshly awarded Slovak short film Obedár (The Lunch Box) from director Ľubomír M. Kocka, who won a bronze Student Oscar on June 12.
Festival visitors can also look forward to evenings of music, such as Sunday, 20 June’s concert on Trenčín’s Mier Square featuring Richard Müller and Dan Bárta, during which Müller, the multiple-time winner of the Slovak Nightingale award, will accept a platinum record for the successful sales of his new album “Už” (Already).
