This morning at a joint press conference in Kulturpark in Košice, Ján Kováčik and Jaroslav Polaček signed a joint memorandum and the Art Film IFF will be in the metropolis of Eastern Slovakia for the next ten years.
The oldest, largest and most important film festival in Slovakia has found its home in the metropolis of Eastern Slovakia since 2016. Košice offers a great infrastructure for such an event, which will include around thirty film screenings every day, as well as other accompanying events. Films are going to be screened at eight different venues, and the unique atmosphere of the festival will be matched by the fact that they are all within a few minutes’ walk within or close to the city’s magnificent historic centre. Since the organizers could count on significant support from the city and the region every year, a consensual decision was made to officially seal the prolongation of the cooperation by adopting a joint memorandum, which was signed on Sunday 23 June 2024 by the producer of the Art Film IFF Ján Kováčik and the mayor of Košice Jaroslav Polaček.
“Košice offers an ideal environment for the film festival, which has already become a symbolic and real treasure of Slovak cinema and culture, moreover with a significant overlap to the film world. It is a pleasure to work with representatives of the city and the region who perceive Art Film in the same way – as an event that we can be proud of together. The extension of the cooperation for another ten years gives us possibilities to further improve and enhance this certainly wonderful event together in the long term,” said Ján Kováčik.
“No one doubts that Art Film is an extremely prestigious event for Košice, which holds the flag of our city high on the cultural map of Europe. That is why we did not hesitate for a minute on both sides to extend the memorandum of mutual cooperation and thus confirmed that the metropolis of Eastern Slovakia will be the home of the most important Slovak film festival for at least the next 10 years. Just as we can be a good partner for athletes and turn the city into a designated stadium or a marathon track, thanks to our well-developed cultural infrastructure we offer an ideal background for the festival’s production. At the same time, I am pleased that Košice is becoming an increasingly attractive location for the creators of film and series, thanks to which we promote our city at home and abroad,” concluded Jaroslav Polaček.
