This year’s Art Film Fest will continue the tradition of awarding notable film-industry personages, but this time in Košice, the urban centre of East Slovakia. The festival organizers have announced two laureates thus far: Czech actor Karel Roden and British director/screenwriter Stephen Daldry. “Karel Roden has long been among the Czech and international acting elite. There’s no doubt about that. He is no less well known as someone who values his privacy, doesn’t concern himself with journalists and avoids publicity – another reason why we’re so glad that he has chosen to accept our award”, says Peter Nágel, explaining the nomination.
“Stephen Daldry belongs to the world’s top directorial echelon, having worked with the likes of Tom Hanks, Meryl Streep, Nicole Kidman and Kate Winslet. His three Oscars nominations for Best Director (for Billy Elliot, The Hours and The Reader) are clear evidence of his exceptional talent. Art Film Fest visitors can look forward to this distinguished figure, who, in addition to his film reputation, has also made his name on the stages of world-renowned theatres,” says Peter Nágel.
