The latest and greatest films of world and Slovak cinema will be the focus of the upcoming 22nd Art Film Fest, which will be held from 21 to 27 June, 2014 in Trenčianske Teplice and Trenčín. The seven-day cinematic odyssey will feature exclusive Slovak premieres of new releases from respected and renowned directors, as well as newly discovered talent.
In the International Competition of Feature Films, an international jury will choose from among the works of distinctive, talented filmmakers to determine the winners of this year’s Blue Angel awards. This year’s competition will include American-Kenyan-Somalian production Fishing Without Nets from 27-year-old Cutter Hodierne, honoured with the Sundance Directing Award in January. “It’s a dramatic, suspenseful psychological thriller about a French oil tanker that gets hijacked by Somalian pirates in the Indian Ocean,” revealed Art Film Fest’s director Peter Nágel, the competition’s programmer.
The crowd-pleasing International Competition of Short Films will yet again grace festival cinemas with a varied medley of fiction, documentary, animated and experimental pictures from every corner of the globe.
What’s more, festival visitors will have the chance to meet—in person—distinguished figures of the film world: the latest winners of the Actor’s Mission and Golden Camera awards. And this time around, festival cinemas will be screening their best work as well.
This year’s programme will be divided into 12 sections. “Films are coming to Art Film Fest fresh from the most renowned festivals, those that determine the direction, trends and progress of cinema. But thanks to our contacts, we also have an overview of smaller festivals, another place where promising filmmakers can be found," clarified Peter Nágel.
“For the entire programme team, having our fingers on the pulse of the latest trends isn’t just natural; it’s essential. We are 100% dedicated to presenting Slovak audiences with not only the newest, but also the most remarkable films—that is to say not just those with unequivocally positive reception, but highly controversial films as well. We strive to offer a programme that displays variety, diversity and variability in its range of categories, genres and topics,” added Mr Nágel. _____________________________________________________________
