The Art Film Fest International Film Festival starts this Friday, and it will continue through next week until 26 June. The eighteenth edition has once again set several records – whether it be its number of screened films or overall number of screenings. In the programme’s thirteen sections, audiences will see 239 films from forty-eight countries, with eleven Slovak films among them. Another unique feature of this year’s festival is the increased number of film-industry guests who will personally introduce their films. This is precisely how Art Film Fest has built up its reputation over the years as one of the most significant cultural events in Slovakia.
The programme will also include the granting of three Actor’s Mission Awards for exceptional acting merit. This year’s recipients will be Josef Abrhám, Milan Kňažko and Gérard Depardieu. Cinematographers are also recognized every year with the Golden Camera Award, which this year will go to Václav Vorlíček and Stanislav Szomolányi.
The Tatra Banka Cinema Tent will be home to films such as I Love You Philip Morris starring Jim Carrey and Ewan McGregor, two Australian films: Red Hill from director Patrick Hughes and Joel Anderson’s Lake Mungo, the German-Cambodian film Same Same But Different and the co-produced films Undertow and Gigante.
As Peter Nágel, Art Film Fest’s director explains: “The crowning glory of the 18th Art Film Fest’s record number of screenings will be the Tatra Banka Cinema Tent’s surprise film presentation, which on 26 June will be introduced by the festival’s most auspicious guest – the legendary French actor Gérard Depardieu.”
Tatra Banka is also Art Film Fest’s leading sponsor, as a part of their strategy to support the arts and education. The many ways in which the bank supports Art Film Fest include this unique screening venue – the Tatra Banka Cinema Tent.
