This documentary captures the story of a man who is according to historians the most noteworthy spy of the Cold War era. The spy in question is Ryszard Kukliński, Colonel of the General Staff of the Polish People’s Army, who from 1972 to 1981 supplied the West with over forty thousand pages of top-secret Warsaw Pact documents. He worked under the codename Jack Strong, and many consider his work to have successfully prevented the outbreak of open nuclear conflict.
The film is a co-production between 
Poland, Slovakia (represented by the company Trigon Production) France and Germany. It was shot in the USA, Russian, Poland, the Czech Republic and Slovakia, and the crew ended up with more than eighteen thousand metres of footage. The film’s topic is discussed by numerous presidents and main representatives of world politics during the Cold War. The film also presents documents from classified archives on the colonel’s case and the contemporaneous political situation.
The film’s director Dariusz Jabloński is far from unknown to Slovak audiences. He is the president of the production company Apple Film Production, which took five years to complete its co-production project Janosik: A True Story (2009).
