On Sunday, 21 June 2026, the evening in Ko\u0161ice was dedicated to the memory of Vlado M\u00fcller \u2014 an icon of Slovak film acting, who was born ninety years ago, and on Saturday, 20 June, thirty years had passed since his death. The Milan Lasica Award in memoriam, which IFF Art Film Ko\u0161ice has been giving since 2025 to outstanding acting personalities of Slovak cinema on the occasion of an unrealised anniversary, was accepted on behalf of his father, from the hands of Magda V\u00e1\u0161aryov\u00e1, by singer and lyricist Richard M\u00fcller. The same evening, the drama Smr\u0165 \u0161it\u00e1 na mieru \/ Custom Tailored Death<\/em>, which he personally selected from his father’s rich filmography for the festival programme, was screened at Kino \u00dasmev. The Historic Town Hall also welcomed Richard M\u00fcller as a guest of a special edition of the talk show Dinner with Havran<\/em>.<\/strong><\/p>\n

For Richard M\u00fcller<\/strong>, the choice of a specific title from his father’s filmography was carefully considered. \u201cIt’s an excellent film. The direction was wonderfully done by Martin Holl\u00fd, the cinematography by Karol Kr\u0161ka, the music by Zden\u011bk Li\u0161ka, and my father carries it in an absolutely disciplined acting role. A great subject, based on a true event \u2014 something like this really happened a long time ago. I told myself that within my father’s work it might be a lesser-known piece, and that it would be worth letting another circle of viewers see it at this festival,\u201d<\/em> said Richard M\u00fcller<\/strong>. On the question of how much of his father’s personality found its way into his acting roles, M\u00fcller<\/strong> answered briefly: \u201cIt was always projected there in some way. That is in every case. And this film testifies to that as well.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

Richard M\u00fcller<\/strong> is a well-known film enthusiast, and in the interview he once again admitted to a firm place in his rankings for the trilogy by Francis Ford Coppola. \u201cI generally like his films \u2014 whether it is The Godfather 1, 2, 3, or The Conversation with Gene Hackman. I am very fond of these films and I like to watch them several times.\u201d<\/em> To repeated viewings he has a simple comment: \u201cI always find something new there. And I realise just how little wits I have.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

From recent cinema, Steven Spielberg has caught his attention. \u201cI really liked his last film, I admit,\u201d<\/em> M\u00fcller<\/strong> added. Asked what he does when watching a film, he did not hesitate: \u201cI am a viewer. I let myself be carried away by the film.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

Asked what awaits him as a musician in the near future, Richard M\u00fcller<\/strong> replied with a laugh: \u201cA great many concerts.\u201d<\/em> A new album is on the horizon, but he admits: \u201cSometime next year.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n
