These are things we should value.\u201d"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>The day after Friday&#8217;s opening ceremony of the 32nd IFF Art Film, Saturday 20 June 2026 in Ko\u0161ice belonged to Anna \u0160i\u0161kov\u00e1, the public and the media. She gave a press conference, a series of interviews and, above all, the symbolic public presentation of the Actor&#8217;s Mission Award at Kulturpark, where she posed on the iconic festival chair. The press conference was opened by the festival&#8217;s artistic director Martin Pal\u00fach and moderated by film publicist Juraj \u010curn\u00fd.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><em>\u201cAnna \u0160i\u0161kov\u00e1 was honoured here with the Actor&#8217;s Mission Award and needs no special introduction. She has appeared in a great many significant films, her subtle acting is very truthful. She has worked with directors such as Du\u0161an Han\u00e1k in Tich\u00e1 rados\u0165, Martin \u0160ul\u00edk in Krajinka or Slne\u010dn\u00fd \u0161t\u00e1t, with Jan H\u0159ebejk in Divided We Fall, and from recent years let me mention the film by her daughter Tereza Nvotov\u00e1, Filthy. We are very glad that she is here and accepted our award,\u201c<\/em> said the festival&#8217;s artistic director <strong>Martin Pal\u00fach<\/strong> at the opening of the press conference.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"IFF Art Film 2026 | Tla\u010dov\u00e1 konferencia \u2013 Anna \u0160i\u0161kov\u00e1 (Hercova misia)\" width=\"1220\" height=\"686\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/mO74HH2ufcE?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Anna \u0160i\u0161kov\u00e1<\/strong> reflected on her first feature film \u2014 the Du\u0161an Han\u00e1k drama <em>Tich\u00e1 rados\u0165<\/em>. <em>\u201cHan\u00e1k himself asked me for a smaller role, and as Han\u00e1k&#8217;s films were and are among the best films Slovak cinema has, I was deeply honoured,\u201d<\/em> she said. Her path to Jan H\u0159ebejk&#8217;s <em>Divided We Fall<\/em> she attributed to sheer coincidence: <em>\u201cWe used to travel with Astorka to Prague to perform Kazim\u00edr and Karol\u00edna. H\u0159ebejk came to see my then-partner, whom he wanted to cast, and during the performance he decided to cast me instead.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The film <em>Divided We Fall<\/em> later went on to be among the films nominated for the Academy Award for Best International Feature Film, and <strong>Anna \u0160i\u0161kov\u00e1<\/strong> together with the crew made it to the very Oscars ceremony in Los Angeles. <em>\u201cIt felt like I was dreaming. On the same day I had a theatre premiere \u2014 T. S. Eliot&#8217;s The Cocktail Party \u2014 and three days later was the Oscars. I had nothing to cover the trip or the stay. Slovak entrepreneurs I did not know at all heard about it, came to see me at the theatre, and paid for it so I could fly to represent Slovakia,\u201d<\/em> the actress recalled.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">From the more recent period the interview did not avoid the film <em>Filthy<\/em> directed by her daughter Tereza Nvotov\u00e1. <em>\u201cTereza is grown up and in many ways, I think, wiser than me, so I really listen to her. As a director she sometimes had me do the same shot ten or eleven times \u2014 but that is her habit with other actors too, for example with Milan Ondr\u00edk,\u201d<\/em> <strong>Anna \u0160i\u0161kov\u00e1<\/strong> noted with a smile. The mother-and-daughter cooperation will, in her words, continue in the future: <em>\u201cTereza said we will do something together again. And even Jitka Schneiderov\u00e1, who presented the award to me, joined in saying she also wants to make something. I hope the three of us will come up with something \u2014 and that it will be a beautiful story.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"IFF Art Film 2026 | Rozhovor \u2013 Anna \u0160i\u0161kov\u00e1 (Hercova misia)\" width=\"1220\" height=\"686\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/WGHT9WwQ-k4?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Friday&#8217;s acceptance speech contained an extensive, partly autobiographical address, inspired by Tereza Nvotov\u00e1. <em>\u201cTereza told me: speak to the young. Imagine you are speaking to young Ani\u010dka. There is no point in speaking to those who have already lived through much. Speak to the young, so they have the courage to follow their dreams,\u201d<\/em> <strong>\u0160i\u0161kov\u00e1<\/strong>said about the speech&#8217;s origin. In it she also mentioned the title <em>\u010clovek oboj\u017eiveln\u00edk<\/em>, the 1962 Soviet film that had moved her most as a child. <em>\u201cIt was an incredible experience, the first time I saw something like that underwater. I passed on the message to my daughters. Years later Tereza called me saying that the Americans had made a new, award-winning film based on the same story. So my childhood feeling was correct,\u201d<\/em> she added.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In an interview for the festival&#8217;s TV station, <strong>Anna \u0160i\u0161kov\u00e1<\/strong> shared her relationship to IFF Art Film: <em>\u201cI have a very warm relationship to this festival, I have been here a few times. It is an international film festival, so let us keep it and I hope those who have the funds will realise this and help it.\u201d<\/em> She has been to many world festivals in Germany, Belgium, the USA and Italy and gives the neighbouring Karlovy Vary as an example: <em>\u201cThe Czechs are proud of their festival, for them it is a flagship; people come from across the country. It saddens me that this festival does not mean the same for Slovakia \u2014 for ordinary people and for those up there in politics. I really wish this would change.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The theme of \u201cmaking the world a better place\u201d, which <strong>\u0160i\u0161kov\u00e1<\/strong> in her acceptance speech called an actor&#8217;s mission, carried over into Saturday&#8217;s interviews. <em>\u201cI easily put myself in the shoes of a hero who goes through something and somehow transforms and becomes a better person. My words on stage or in front of the camera are from the script, but they are such wise words that I learn from them as a human being. And if I learn from them, then I think I pass that message on to viewers \u2014 to be better to their surroundings, to themselves, to their children and to Slovakia too,\u201d<\/em> the actress explained.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">After the press conference and a series of one-on-one interviews, <strong>Anna \u0160i\u0161kov\u00e1<\/strong> received the Actor&#8217;s Mission Award also before the public \u2014 outside Kulturpark, on the iconic festival chair. On Saturday evening she returned to Bratislava, where she performs in Strindberg&#8217;s play <em>To Damascus<\/em>. <em>\u201cRight now I mainly have beautiful theatre roles,\u201d<\/em> she said.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To the audiences of the 32nd IFF Art Film, <strong>Anna \u0160i\u0161kov\u00e1<\/strong> addressed a personal message: <em>\u201cI wish you wonderful experiences with film. When a person sees a good film and really enjoys it, they can live in it for several more days \u2014 the thoughts and situations come back, the performances go straight to the heart. I love films that show me how people live in Africa or India, that draw me into the everyday life of places I have never been. These are things we should value. Enjoy it fully and go to the movies.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The 32nd IFF Art Film Ko\u0161ice continues until Thursday, 25 June 2026.
