It feels as if we only just left Ko\u0161ice after last year\u2019s festival\u2014yet so much has happened since the last edition of IFF Art Film. Last summer we wondered how best to secure a permanent tribute to the festival\u2019s first and only president. The result is the Milan Lasica Award (Cena Milana Lasicu)<\/strong>, and tonight we will present it for the very first time, handing it to the family of Ivan Mistr\u00edk<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

You could say Art Film has matured. It has changed the lives of actors, filmmakers, fans\u2014and even people who simply passed by. It has shaped those of us lucky enough to help create something so special, and it has left its mark on the place that hosts it.<\/p>\n

Since 2016, when Art Film found its home here, Ko\u0161ice<\/strong> and eastern Slovakia have been transformed into a genuinely \u201ccinematic\u201d region. Over the past nine years, Ko\u0161ick\u00fd kraj<\/strong> and the city of Ko\u0161ice have seized every opportunity the festival brings. They have revealed new, unique shooting locations, while local entrepreneurs have built the facilities needed for film and series production. Thanks to these efforts, the region now stands out ever more boldly on the world\u2019s film map.<\/p>\n

Films are built on stories\u2014sometimes joyful, humorous, loving; sometimes bleak, violent, even horrific. The emotions they convey, the way filmmakers capture them, the music and sound they choose\u2026 all of it fascinates us. Moving pictures naturally draw human attention. We have been writing the story of this year\u2019s IFF Art Film for months, and we\u2019re thrilled that you, our audience, are stepping into it as active participants<\/strong>. We looked forward to you most of all; we pushed ourselves to the limit so that you could take home another unforgettable experience\u2014your own unique Art Film story.<\/p>\n

We\u2019ll be delighted if you share that story with us: tell us how you enjoyed the festival, which films you saw, whom you bumped into over a coffee or a pastry, and with whom you snapped a photograph. After all, IFF Art Film is about you<\/strong>, too.<\/p>\n

Usually, the thanks to partners at the end of a festival report are seen as a formality. For us they mean far more. Without our partners, co-organisers and suppliers the festival simply wouldn\u2019t happen.<\/strong> It is inspiring to see companies today that recognise the value of culture and are eager to support it. Thanks largely to them, we can gather again in cinemas and watch great films together.<\/p>\n
