{"id":2718,"date":"2009-05-28T15:07:00","date_gmt":"2009-05-28T14:07:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.artfilmfest.sk\/en\/blog\/uncategorized\/2009\/05\/citizen-havel-to-commemorate-velvet-revolution-at-art-film-fest\/"},"modified":"2016-02-08T12:39:08","modified_gmt":"2016-02-08T11:39:08","slug":"citizen-havel-to-commemorate-velvet-revolution-at-art-film-fest","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/iffartfilm.com\/en\/blog\/highlights\/2009\/05\/citizen-havel-to-commemorate-velvet-revolution-at-art-film-fest\/","title":{"rendered":"Citizen Havel to Commemorate Velvet Revolution at Art Film Fest!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Festival cinemas await the arrival of <i>Citizen Havel Is Rolling Barrels <\/i>from Jan Nov\u00e1k, American filmmaker of Czech descent, and his son Adam. <br \/>Their previous work together includes <i>Citizen V\u00e1clav Havel Goes on Vacation <\/i>from 2005, where they reconstruct Havel\u2019s journey through the republic in 1985, which wore out hundreds of secret police officers and brought about a series of absurd situations characteristic of the collapsing communist regime.<br \/>The documentary collage <i>Citizen Havel Is Rolling Barrels<\/i> recounts Havel\u2019s stint at a Trutnov brewery in the mid-1970s and searches for the circumstances surrounding the creation of Havel\u2019s cult play <i>Audience<\/i>. The picture is a testimony to the absurdities of the normalisation era, illuminating the secret police\u2019s interrogation methods, the phenomenon of \u201chome theatre\u201d and an incident surrounding a seized shipment of \u201canti-state\u201d literature. The film includes interviews with dissidents, former police officers, employees of the brewery and famous actors such as Ji\u0159ina Bohdalov\u00e1. The second title exclusively screened at Art Film Fest will be the American documentary <i>The Power of the Powerless<\/i> from director Cory Taylor.<br \/>The film chronologically maps the Velvet Revolution in the streets of Pragueand Bratislava and examines the harmful effects of \u201cerasing\u201d history.
