The winners of the <strong>International Competition of Feature Films<\/strong> were chosen from among nine competing films by a three-member jury consisting of dramaturg <strong>Maja Hrie\u0161ik<\/strong>, director <strong>Tereza Nvotov\u00e1<\/strong> and actress <strong>Nat\u00e1lia Germ\u00e1ni<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The <strong>Blue Angel for Best Film<\/strong> went to <strong>Pleasure<\/strong> (2021) from Swedish director <strong>Ninja Thyberg <\/strong>and producers <strong>Eliza Jones<\/strong>, <strong>Markus Walt\u00e5 <\/strong>and <strong>Erik Hemmendorff<\/strong>. <em>\u201cMaking a film about pornography is a minefield.<\/em> <em>Yet Pleasure manages to avoid all the potential clich\u00e9s, not exploiting or fetishizing the exotic world of adult entertainment, while forcing us to confront our own boundaries and ask ourselves where exactly they (would) lie,\u201d <\/em>wrote the jury in their official statement.<\/p>\n<p><strong>T<\/strong>he <strong>Blue Angel for Best Director <\/strong>was awarded to Serbian director <strong>Ivan Iki\u0107 <\/strong>for his film<strong> Oasis <\/strong>(2020). \u00a0The jury noted <em>\u201chis masterful directing of non-actors and the courage to take on the grand theme of love along with every person\u2019s need to make their own life decisions, no matter the circumstances.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The <strong>Blue Angel for Best Actress <\/strong>was earned by Swedish actress <strong>Sofia Kappel<\/strong>, who captured the jury\u2019s interest with her portrayal of the protagonist in the film <strong>Pleasure<\/strong> (2021). She received the award <em>\u201cfor her portrayal of a strong woman, capable of total physical and mental self-exposure, who knowingly ventures into the dark side of the entertainment industry, intent on succeeding at all costs and, despite all her failures, never losing control over her own life and decisions.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>T<\/strong>he <strong>Blue Angel for Best Actor<\/strong> went to Russian actor <strong>Vladimir Onokhov<\/strong> for his lead role in the film <strong>The Whaler Boy<\/strong> (2020). The jury cited <em>\u201chis ability to transport us to the faraway world of Chukotka and into a young man\u2019s fragile coming of age.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The jury also decided to grant a <strong>Special Mention<\/strong> to Polish cinematographer Micha\u0142 Dymek for his work on the film <strong>Sweat<\/strong> (2020). The jurors praised the film\u2019s <em>\u201cdynamic, subjective images that put us right into the skin of the protagonist \u2013 a lonely woman who is the centre of media attention.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/em><em>\u201cNearly all the films in the competition were exceptional for their honesty and ability to draw us into the lives and worlds of people who we almost never see in the mainstream media.<\/em> <em>Whether it be disabled adolescents fighting for freedom and love, influencers in the social-media spotlight, Iranian workers in the middle of the desert who not only lose their jobs, but their very identity, porn stars, parents whose children are taken away by the system, or whale hunters at the end of the earth \u2013 these films allow us to see the world from broader, more empathetic perspectives, and for this we owe their creators our thanks,\u201d <\/em>reads the jury\u2019s statement.<\/p>\n<p>Art Film Fest and <strong>Telev\u00edzia<\/strong> <strong>JOJ<\/strong>, one of the festival\u2019s major media partners, annually present the <strong>JOJ<\/strong> <strong>Cinema<\/strong> <strong>Audience Award for Best Feature Film<\/strong>. This year\u2019s winning film, with the most audience votes, is the comedy <strong>The Big Hit<\/strong> (2020). It is worth noting that the film that won the hearts of Art Film Fest\u2019s audiences was also named last year\u2019s best comedy by the <strong>European Film Academy<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The voters were themselves entered into a competition for one weekend with a <strong>KIA automobile<\/strong> (model: Kia XCeed), provided by <strong>AUTO \u2013 VALAS s.r.o.<\/strong> The lucky winner, along with ten other randomly picked entrants, also received a <strong>gift package of TV JOJ memorabilia<\/strong>. In addition, the viewer who manages to watch the most films at Art Film Fest will win a <strong>\u20ac100 fuel card courtesy of SLOVNAFT, a.s. <\/strong>and a <strong>cinepass<\/strong> for next year\u2019s festival.<\/p>\n<p>The<strong> 28th International Art Film Fest Film Festival <\/strong>will conclude tonight with a pair of screenings under the starry sky \u2013 at Ko\u0161ice\u2019s amphitheatre and in the courtyard of Katova ba\u0161ta (the Executioner\u2019s Bastion) in the historic city centre. \u00a0More information on other scheduled events can be found at the festival website, www.artfilmfest.sk\/en\/.
