For the first time, a new honorary award\u2014the Milan Lasica Award\u2014was presented. It serves as a lasting tribute to the festival\u2019s first and only president and is awarded in memoriam<\/em> to outstanding figures of our cinematography. Its first laureate was Ivan Mistr\u00edk, whose 90th birth anniversary we commemorate in 2025. For the first time, awards were also presented by the FIPRESCI Jury\u2014the International Federation of Film Critics\u2014within its own independent selection. The Actor\u2019s Mission Award went to Daniela Kol\u00e1\u0159ov\u00e1 (Czech Republic) and Milan Ondr\u00edk (Slovakia). The Golden Camera Award was presented in the metropolis of eastern Slovakia to one of the most respected and acclaimed cinematographers of both Slovak and Czech cinema\u2014Martin \u0160trba.<\/p>\n

The 31st edition (2025) of IFF Art Film, the largest and oldest film festival in Slovakia, expanded once again this year. The winning films were awarded the prestigious Blue Angel Awards<\/strong>. In addition to the three established competition sections\u2014the International Competition of Feature Films<\/strong>, the International Competition of Short Films<\/strong>, and the International Competition of Films from Central and Eastern Europe<\/strong>\u2014this year also introduced the Blue Angel \u2013 FIPRESCI Award<\/strong>, presented by the distinguished jury of the International Federation of Film Critics. The juries also recognized the best acting performances, directing, and presented several special mentions. During the festival, honorary awards were also presented\u2014for the first time, the Milan Lasica Award<\/strong> was introduced, with Ivan Mistr\u00edk<\/strong> becoming its first laureate; the Actor\u2019s Mission Award<\/strong> was presented by the organizers to Milan Ondr\u00edk<\/strong> and Daniela Kol\u00e1\u0159ov\u00e1<\/strong>; and the Golden Camera Award<\/strong> was presented to Martin \u0160trba<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The honorary Golden Camera Award<\/strong> for outstanding contribution to cinematography was presented to Martin \u0160trba<\/strong>, a four-time recipient of the Czech Lion Award and three-time recipient of the Sun in a Net Award, an exceptional cinematographer and filmmaker. The award was presented by director Iveta Gr\u00f3fov\u00e1<\/strong>. Another honorary award\u2014the Actor\u2019s Mission Award<\/strong> for extraordinary contribution to the art of acting in film\u2014was granted to actress Daniela Kol\u00e1\u0159ov\u00e1<\/strong>, who was unable to attend the festival due to health reasons. The Actor\u2019s Mission Award was received during the opening ceremony at Kunsthalle Ko\u0161ice by Milan Ondr\u00edk<\/strong>, presented by actress Jana O\u013ehov\u00e1<\/strong> and director Marko \u0160kop<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Through the honorary Milan Lasica Award<\/strong>, the organizers aim to permanently commemorate the memory of the festival\u2019s first and only president. The award is presented in memoriam<\/em> to outstanding figures of Slovak cinematography. Hana Lasicov\u00e1<\/strong>, together with her daughters Stela<\/strong> and Ester<\/strong>, presented the award to the family of the legendary Ivan Mistr\u00edk<\/strong>, whose 90th birth anniversary is commemorated in 2025.<\/p>\n

As every year, the audience of IFF Art Film selected the best film. The JOJ Cinema Award for Best Audience Film<\/strong> went to Lioness<\/em>, directed by Liina Tri\u0161kina-Vanhatalo<\/strong> from Estonia.<\/p>\n

The professional jury of the International Competition of Short Films<\/strong> consisted of Hungarian film producer Timea Husz\u00e1r<\/strong>, Slovak director Alica Bedn\u00e1rikov\u00e1<\/strong>, and director Zornitsa Dimitrova<\/strong>, originally from Bulgaria. They decided to award the Blue Angel for Best Short Film<\/strong>, together with a financial prize of \u20ac500, to the Slovak short film Confession<\/em> (2024), directed by Rebeka Bizubov\u00e1<\/strong>. \u201cThis is a cinematic work that strikes the viewer like a punch. Here we see the very essence of filmmaking laid bare\u2014a raw and honest story told in a powerful yet simple way. The courage and mastery required to tell such a deeply personal story are more than remarkable. Hats off,\u201d stated the jury. In addition to the main award, the jury also presented two Special Mentions. The first went to O<\/em> (2024), directed by R\u00fanar R\u00fanarsson<\/strong>, praised for its sincere approach to a challenging subject: \u201cAn authentic and delicate, yet heartbreaking work that does not hesitate to show addiction in all its rawness. Masterfully handled.\u201d Another Special Mention went to Funeral Service for You<\/em> (2024), directed by Mar\u00eda Slafranca<\/strong>: \u201cA truly refreshing and absurd cinematic piece. It moves between comedy, documentary, and advertising. An absolute joy to watch.\u201d<\/p>\n

The professional jury of the International Competition of Films from Central and Eastern Europe<\/strong> consisted of FIPRESCI Vice-President, Ukrainian director, journalist and film critic Elena Rubashevska<\/strong>, international talent agent from France Andr\u00e9 Rapha\u00ebl Ivanov<\/strong>, and Swedish multimedia critic and artist Anders E. Larsson<\/strong>. They awarded the Blue Angel for Best Film<\/strong> in this category to the time-lapse documentary I Was Born a Servant<\/em> (2025), directed by Attila Moharos<\/strong>, which follows the difficult lives of two brothers in Transylvania, Romania. According to the jury: \u201cBorn in the harsh and stressful conditions of Hungarian-speaking rural areas of Transylvania in central Romania, experienced filmmaker Attila Moharos follows in his documentary the complex life of a farmhand and shepherd over the course of 23 years. Using a simple yet effective aesthetic technique interweaving past and present events, he brings us a deeply human story\u2014marked by alcoholism and abuse\u2014about a form of slavery most people have never even heard of.\u201d Along with the Blue Angel Award, the film\u2019s producers received a financial prize of \u20ac1,500.<\/p>\n

In the International Competition of Feature Films<\/strong>, the jury consisted of American director Alexandre O. Philippe<\/strong>, Slovak director and producer Marko \u0160kop<\/strong>, and Hungarian director Gl\u00f3ria Hal\u00e1sz<\/strong>. The Blue Angel for Best Feature Film<\/strong> was awarded to the Macedonian drama DJ Ahmet<\/em> (2025). Jury member Alexandre O. Philippe<\/strong> explained the decision: \u201cThe award for Best Film goes to a work that boldly tells a story about the power of love. It shows us that if we follow the rhythm within ourselves and express our individuality without fear or shame, we all have the ability to free ourselves from the oppressive forces of the world around us. With great pride, we award the Blue Angel for Best Film to DJ Ahmet<\/em>.\u201d Along with the award, the producers received a financial prize of \u20ac2,000.<\/p>\n

The Blue Angel for Best Director<\/strong> was also awarded to Georgi M. Unkovski<\/strong> for DJ Ahmet<\/em> (2025). \u201cThe Blue Angel for Best Director goes to an exceptional storyteller who created a whimsical and magical world and, with an incredibly fluid, simple, and clear vision, delivered a heartbreaking and perfectly original story of star-crossed lovers in rural Macedonia. For casting the film with precision and directing it with great care and emotion,\u201d added Gl\u00f3ria Hal\u00e1sz<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

In addition to directing and Best Film, the international jury also recognized acting performances. The Blue Angel for Best Actress<\/strong> was awarded by Marko \u0160kop<\/strong> and the Director of the Slovak Audiovisual Fund Vladim\u00edr Burianek<\/strong> jointly to Vesta Matulyt\u0117<\/strong> and Ieva Rupeikait\u0117<\/strong> for their performances in the Lithuanian film Toxic<\/em> (2024). \u201cThe award for Best Actress goes to a dual performance by two young actresses of remarkable determination portraying teenage girls dreaming of a better life in harsh and unforgiving conditions. We were deeply moved by the authenticity of their dynamic, and in our opinion both deserve to share the Blue Angel for Best Actress.\u201d<\/p>\n

The jury also recognized Best Actor, awarding the Blue Angel<\/strong> to Arif Jakup<\/strong> for his convincing and authentic performance in DJ Ahmet<\/em> (2025). \u201cThe award for Best Actor goes to a young and promising actor who demonstrates complete mastery of his craft, stands out with charm and sincerity, and fully convinces us of the transformative power and potential of love in a cynical world,\u201d said Gl\u00f3ria Hal\u00e1sz<\/strong>, announcing the winner together with Zlatica Vargov\u00e1<\/strong>, Administrator of the SPP Foundation.<\/p>\n

The jury also decided to present a Special Mention to Slovak actress Rebeka Pol\u00e1kov\u00e1<\/strong> for her performance in the Austrian-Slovak film Perla<\/em> (2025). The decision was announced by Alexandre O. Philippe<\/strong>: \u201cFor a fascinating performance portraying a character haunted by conflicting desires in the complex environment of the Cold War period.\u201d<\/p>\n

The FIPRESCI Award<\/strong> was also presented by members of the International Federation of Film Critics\u2014Slovak film theorist and critic M\u00e1ria Feren\u010duhov\u00e1<\/strong>, British professor of film theory and critic Jonathan Murray<\/strong>, and Swiss film critic Malik Berkati<\/strong>. They chose to award the Austrian-Slovak film Perla<\/em> (2024), which tells the story of an emigrant and impulsive painter returning from Vienna to communist Czechoslovakia to repay an old debt. \u201cOur winner is an ambitious and penetrating work that avoids the false certainties of retrospective reflection and resists quick judgments. It illuminates both the politically charged past and present of Europe through themes of individual and collective exile, trauma, and systemic violence against women that persists to this day. Its dramaturgy and cinematography are united in their attempt to capture the complex and shifting nature of human identity. The visual style and narrative structure together create compositions reminiscent of paintings\u2014subtle metaphors and reflections of the protagonist, her multilayered identity and past,\u201d the international jury stated.<\/p>\n

(2016), Rupa\u2019s Boutique (2017), Three Dances (2018), Alla Zingara (2019), Circus Siblings (2023) and Who Cares About Pal Frenak (2025) \u2013 which were featured and awarded at acknowledged film festivals, gained main prizes. She has developed and created various film projects on a wide variety of topics, including films about a jail theatre company, a clown doctor, women in India and their stories of survival after major acid attacks or a Hungarian circus artist class that spent a semester in Kyiv before the war. The relationship between fantasy and reality is a recurring theme in both her documentary and fiction works, exploring how imagination can be a handhold in a seemingly hopeless situation. Alexandre O. Philippe<\/h2>
A 3-time Sundance Film Festival alum, Alexandre O. Philippe has developed his own brand of \u201ccinema essay,\u201d exploring the art of filmmaking and its practitioners. Most of his films take on the role of unpacking the most influential works of master filmmakers, and dissecting seminal screen moments. Selected past works include: You Can Call Me Bill (SXSW \u201823), Leap of Faith: William Friedkin on the Exorcist (Venice \u201919, Sundance \u201820), Memory: The Origins of Alien (Sundance \u201919), 78\/52: Hitchcock\u2019s Shower Scene (Sundance \u201917), Doc of the Dead (SXSW\u201914), and The People vs. George Lucas (SXSW \u201910). His latest film, Chain Reactions, won the prestigious Venice Classics Lion at the 2024 Venice International Film Festival. Lynch\/Oz – Alexandre\u2019s unique take on the art and cinema of David Lynch \u2013 premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival. Marko \u0160kop<\/h2>
He graduated in journalism from the Faculty of Arts of Comenius University in Bratislava (1996) and in documentary film directing from the Academy of Performing Arts in Bratislava (2001). He received his PhD from the Faculty of Arts of Comenius University in Bratislava (2005). His feature debut, Other Worlds (2006), received a Special Jury Mention at the Karlovy Vary IFF and was the first documentary film at the festival to win the Audience Award. His documentary film Osadn\u00e9 (2009) was awarded Best Documentary at the Karlovy Vary IFF, and his feature debut Eva Nov\u00e1 (2015) won the FIPRESCI Prize at the 2015 Toronto IFF. His latest film, Let There Be Light, was awarded a Special Mention by the Ecumenical Jury at the Karlovy Vary IFF and earned Milan Ondr\u00edk the Best Actor Award. Her diploma short film, A Dark Moment of Faith, won multiple awards at prestigious festivals like D&AD, the Young Director Award at Cannes Lions, 1.4 the Award Show, Shots Awards EMEA, Clio, and Berlin Commercial. Zornitsa\u2019s directing style blends precision with improvisation, focusing on strong, character-driven storytelling with a distinctive angle and a beautifully cinematic visual style. She has a special passion for telling stories about strong women. Her commercials, even in short formats, feel like feature films, leaving a lasting impression on the audience. If you look closely, you\u2019ll often find a hidden middle finger woven into the narrative. Her short film A Dark Moment of Faith was selected for the Competition at the Art Film Fest IFF in 2023.<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n[vc_empty_space]

Timea Husz\u00e1r<\/h2>
Timea Husz\u00e1r is a producer involved with short films, documentaries and features. She started off working on international service productions as a personal assistant to producers on productions such as Halo, The Continental, Dune, Red Sparrow, Wonder Woman and has a 10-year experience in film production and service. She has graduated in 2015 from the National Film and Television School (NFTS) with a background in production management. Last year she has completed the European Co-production Legal and Financial aspects workshop at the Erich Pommer Institute. In 2023 she has service produced Vita Mia, an Italian feature film directed by Edoardo Winspeare in Transylvania, and been one of the producers on Enigmele Romanei for History Channel Romania. Anders E Larsson is a Swedish film and stage critic, writer, musician and poet. He is the editor of Kontradiktion.fi, a magazine for digital and experimental poetry, and he contributes to the film magazines Point of View and FLM. Previously, he served as a culture editor for various newspapers. He is the former director of the oldest Swedish genre film festival, Lund Fantastic Film Festival, and last year he was in charge of the festival magazine at Stockholm Film Festival. He composed the score for the Guldbagge-awarded feature film Garden Lane and is now writing music for the documentary Fossil, Fire, Footprints. He is the singer\/songwriter in indie rock trio Slowmotion Club and solo project The Sad Highway. As an actor, he has worked in film, theatre and musicals. Author of a book about Ukrainian Poetic Cinema and research of Czechoslovak films. He is the co-founder and editor-in-chief of an international multilingual online magazine focusing on culture and civic awareness (j:mag), and a correspondent in Berlin for various newspapers and magazines from the French-speaking part of Switzerland. He has served on numerous international juries in Europe and Asia for FIPRESCI, as well as on the German Film Critics (VdFK) juries for Best German Documentary (2017, 2022 and 2023), Best German Short Film (2019\u20132021), and since 2020 Jury Member of The Critics Award for Arab Films of the Arab Cinema Center (ACC). Selections from her poetry have been published in the United Kingdom, Spain, and Germany. She is also the author and editor of three monographs on film: Odlo\u017een\u00fd \u010das. Filmov\u00e9 pramene, historiografia, dokument\u00e1rny film (2009), Dokument\u00e1rny film v krajin\u00e1ch V4 (2014) and Nov\u00fd slovensk\u00fd film (2015, with K. Mi\u0161\u00edkov\u00e1). She specializes primarily in Slovak auteur documentary film and film essays. From 2003 to 2018, she worked at the Film and Television Faculty of the Academy of Performing Arts (V\u0160MU). Between 2020 and 2024, she was an editor for the monthly film magazine Film.sk.
